Injured or Abandoned Animal Guide

If you have found an injured animal on the roadside or in another location or, if you have an animal that has made itself comfy inside your home, please read our Quick Guide below to learn about what you should and should not do. And thank you for your concern and kindness to the animals.

What Number Do I Call If I Found An Injured Animal?

Call Wings of the Dawn at (603)428-3723 before approaching any animal, unless you feel that the animal is in immediate danger.

Can I Give The Animal Food Or Water?

Do not give the animal any food or water unless instructed to do so by Wings of the Dawn or other trained wildlife rehabiliators.  Feeding an animal an incorrect diet can result in injury or death. In addition, a captured animal may get food and water stuck in its fur/feathers potentially leading to discomfort and hypothermia.

What Should I Put The Animal In?

Place the animal in an appropriately-sized, secure box with a towel or paper towel on the bottom. Make sure the box has holes in the lid.  Keep the animal in a warm, dark, quiet place.

Should I Talk To The Animal Or Comfort It?

Leave the animal alone. Remember human noise, touch and eye contact are very stressful to wild animals.

What Else Should I Do?

Please follow any further instructions given to you by Wings of the Dawn. If necessary, do not hesitate to call (603)428-3723 again
